This Oregon congresswoman is wearing frog earrings to support protesters in her district
Giant frogs continue to make a splash in local politics... And U.S. Rep. Maxine Dexter isn’t afraid to let her frog flag fly.
Dexter -- whose district includes most of Portland’s east side and east Multnomah County, which have seen sharp increases in ICE activity -- recently shared a Facebook post of herself mugging with the inflatable amphibians.
In the post, she writes “Thank you to the Frog Brigade for stopping by my town hall this weekend! I am bringing your dedication to standing up for our city and our democracy back with me to Congress.”
The town hall Dexter references was held at Roosevelt High School on Nov. 8 in response to increased ICE activity in Portland. She called the situation “a failure of government” and encouraged constituents to stay engaged with local politics.

Dexter was also sporting a pair of bright green frog earrings.
The Facebook comments, as expected, had arguments from both sides of the political highway.
“I know a great frog leg recipe.” wrote one Facebook user.
“Together we ribbit. Divided we croak!” joked another.
Another commentator summarized, “What is genius about these protestors donning inflatable frog costumes is that this demonstrates that humor and good manners can be effective in conveying a protest message without it causing a fight. It is way more effective than confrontation or certainly, any violence”
