GOP Senator Flake endorses Georgia Democrat Ossoff against MAGA challenger
Former Senator Jeff Flake, the Arizona Republican critical of President Donald Trump, endorsed Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff's reelection campaign Tuesday against a MAGA challenger.
Ossoff is looking to extend his Senate career into a second term, which Representative Mike Collins aims to prevent with the help from Trump and his loyal followers. The congressman has aligned himself with the president, adopting his most impudent conduct, which Flake cited as a reason for his Democratic endorsement.
"I'm still a conservative Republican. But character matters," the former senator told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "And I want someone in that seat who takes the institution seriously and will protect the institution."
Collins has refused to recognize Trump's defeat in the 2020 presidential race and supported his efforts to undermine the country's electoral systems, all the while casting Ossoff as a radical roadblock to national success.
"The future of our state can go two ways this November," the congressman said in an X post last week. "It can follow the path of common sense and my proven results — safer streets, stronger schools, and real solutions for Georgia families — or it can follow Jon Ossoff and the socialist wing of the Democratic Party down the road of empty rhetoric and radical fantasies."
