House Speaker Mike Johnson is motivating Democrats after he warned Republicans on Friday that the opposition will launch investigations into Donald Trump and the president’s family if they gain power after the midterm elections.

Johnson, critics said, sounded like a “mob boss” when he said he will “run the protection program” for Trump and suggested the president will be on the ballot in November.

“If we were to lose these midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats -- y’all, impeachment’s not even the big concern -- they will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they’ll go after the president’s family, the cabinet, his donors and friends, half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. I’ll take care of you,” he said at a Faith & Freedom Coalition event Friday.

“We’re going to win.”

Democrats and Trump administration critics were taken aback by the brazenness of Johnson’s remark and suggesting it is an admission of wrongdoing.

They also used Johnson’s words as motivation.

“Mike Johnson giving Democrats more reasons to vote,” posted the anti-Trump media organization MeidasTouch.

Johnson made a “good point,” added Dan Pfeiffer, former communications director for Barack Obama and “Pod Save America” co-host.

“If you think politicians, billionaires, elites, and members of the Epstein Class should be able to do whatever they want without any accountability, vote Republican this Fall,” Pfeiffer continued.

“It’d be nice to have a Speaker who’d say: ‘And let them, we have nothing to hide, and they’ll look like fools for doing it.’ But what he’s saying here is: They’re gonna uncover a lot of stuff, and you don’t want that,” tweeted Atlantic senior staff writer Tom Nichols.

“This is the most corrupt words to come out of a Speaker’s mouth imaginable. The job of Congress isn’t to protect the President and his family. It’s to provide checks and balances on the Executive Branch,” tweeted liberal influencer and Democratic congressional candidate Fred Wellman.

“You’re damn right we will investigate crimes and corruption,” Wellman continued. “Who moved $180 million in oil futures 15 minutes before Iran announcements? Who has gotten sole source contracts because of their connections to the Trump family? Where did our social security data go when DOGE downloaded it into portable hard drives? Where are the rest of the Epstein files? On and on this Congress has chosen covering up crimes instead of stopping them. That ends in November.”

The X account run by Democrats on the Homeland Security Committee said, “we approve this message,” referring to Johnson’s statement.
