Political royalty descended upon Lake Charles Tuesday morning as House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La, met with members of the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance.

In a closed-door discussion at the West Cal Event Center in Sulphur, Johnson is said to have provided a legislative update to local community leaders and business owners. After the meeting, Johnson spoke with the American Press about the important role he said Louisiana serves for both the region and the entire nation.

“I believe our state is more blessed than any other with its natural resources and the incredible people who live and work here,” he said. “You combine that with the state’s leadership and the congressional leaders from Louisiana, and this is a historical time for the state.”

Johnson said he believes Louisiana is poised to give the nation incredible momentum as the country focuses on energy dominance. He pointed to LNG’s growth in the area as a critical marker of that momentum.

According to Johnson, LNG is expected to double its footprint in Southwest Louisiana by 2031 and expects to add more than 500,000 jobs to the local area by 2040, bringing an anticipated $1 trillion to the local economy by that time.

Earlier this week, Johnson was in Bossier City to announce an investment of $26 million in federal funding for infrastructure improvements in the state, the majority of which will be earmarked for the Bossier Parish East-West Corridor Project.

“It’s a great era for Louisiana, and I believe the best days are ahead,” he said.
