House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are throwing support behind a bipartisan move to combat sexual misconduct in the House of Representatives.

This effort comes after the resignations of former Texas GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales and California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell.

Both members resigned over sexual harassment allegations from staff members.

Florida GOP Rep. Kat Cammack and New Mexico Democratic Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández came together in a partnership to address sexual harassment issues on The Hill.

“No woman — regardless of party, title, or position — should ever feel unsafe in her workplace. Period,” Cammack said.

The effort will involve examining the systems, reporting mechanisms and the workplace culture in the House, according to The Hill newspaper.

“Together, we will push for bipartisan changes to make the reporting process faster and more accessible and increase education and training resources, prioritizing staff and survivors at every step,” Leger Fernández said in a statement.

Both Johnson and Jeffries put out statements supporting the move.

“To state the obvious, all women should feel comfortable and safe working in the halls of Congress,” Johnson said. “As a father who has two daughters working on Capitol Hill — this is as personal to me as it is to anyone.”

Jeffries said he was also in support of the effort.

“We support an ironclad policy so we can bring about a safe, professional atmosphere for all Congressional staff members,” he said.
