Trump demands 'Never Trumper' Mitch McConnell staffer be fired
President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanded that a “never Trumper” staffer who works for Kentucky GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell be fired.
“The guy that came up to Mitch McConnell today when McConnell thought the hearing was over, and started speaking in his ear for Mitch to belatedly introduce some other people, all Democrats and, by doing so, made Mitch look foolish and completely out of it, should be immediately fired!” Trump wrote in a lengthy post on TRUTH Social.
Trump’s remarks come after McConnell attempted to end a hearing early, but a staffer told him that three other senators still needed to question the witnesses, according to The Hill newspaper.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General. Dean Caine testified about the ongoing war in Iran and the budget for the Pentagon.
Trump defended McConnell and said he wasn’t confused.
“This was a case where Mitch wasn’t confused, he just didn’t understand why he was being asked to do something when it was too late, and people were wrapping up to leave — They wanted to go home,” Trump continued.
Trump named the staffer as Robert Karem.
“Karem has tremendous Democrat support, far greater than he should have, and is praised relentlessly by Obama’s people,” his post concluded. “He is probably the reason why Mitch McConnell is stupidly opposed to terminating the Filibuster, and refuses to help with a 97% issue, THE SAVE AMERICA ACT. FIRE THE BUM!”
