Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who has been absent from Congress indefinitely, is facing scrutiny online after another lawmaker posted a video of herself after she was hospitalized.

In a video shared on X, Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) announced Sunday that she will be undergoing physical rehabilitation after she was injured in what police said was a hit-and-run crash in Toledo on Aug. 2. A spokesperson for the congresswoman said she was heading to church at the time.

“Dear friends, first of all, thank you so very, very much for the thousands of good wishes that are coming from our community, across our region, our state, our country and even around the world,” Kaptur, 80, is recorded saying. “Really, it’s made a huge difference in my very rapid recovery.”

Kaptur went on to add that she does not expect to return to Washington until next month.

She thanked first responders, fire and rescue squads and the police that assisted, characterizing the accident as “not a pleasant experience” that resulted in wounds she did not detail.

A number of social media users had pointed to how McConnell, who is also in recovery, should post a similar video in the wake of his hospitalization on June 14.

“Notice how she is doing a video from rehab to let her constituents know she is alive instead of releasing statements and two photos,” one user replied on X.

An elections analyst said it is a “stark contrast to McConnell who to date has not released any video message.”

Another user posted: “Mitch McConnell can’t even put out a video message while Marcy Kaptur is using her hospital stay to aura farm.”

“See Mitch? It’s not that hard to record yourself in front of a camera to provide proof of life to your constituents,” someone else wrote.

McConnell, 84, said Thursday he had been discharged from a rehabilitation center after a fall and subsequent case of pneumonia. The longtime senator, who is retiring, said he will continue to recover at home, but did not provide a timeline of when he would be back to work in the Senate.

It was the third time McConnell had provided an update on his health after his office remained largely silent on why the Kentucky Republican was hospitalized and his condition, despite speculation about his health status.

McConnell provided a written statement through his staff in all cases, along with two photos of him and his wife. But some on the internet, including conservative personalities, have called on the senator to share a video of himself addressing the situation.

Kaptur broke her silence just one week after an unknown driver crashed into a vehicle that she and her campaign manager were occupying, according to authorities.

The extent of her injuries was described by her office as non-life-threatening.

The at-fault has fled the scene and has not been identified, police said. No charges have been announced as an investigation is ongoing.

Kaptur is running for reelection and is the longest-serving woman in the history of Congress. She has been in office since 1983.
