Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is issuing Sen. Mitch McConnell an ultimatum.

Speaking to reporters in Washington D.C. on Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez called on McConnell to resign if he cannot provide a public update on his health.

“If he can’t give us an update, he should resign. Absolutely,” Ocasio-Cortez said referring to McConnell’s health status in a clip shared on X.

The congresswoman pointed to the photos McConnell’s office has released, calling them “not sufficient.”

She urged the senator to speak with someone in a public forum — be it a journalist or Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear — to issue, not only sufficient proof-of-life, but that he is able to finish his term in office.

“We’re seeing increasingly these votes are being decided by a one or two vote margin, and if you’re not... only not capable of doing the job presently, but we need to know if you’re capable of doing the job for the foreseeable future,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And that, I think, is tremendously important.”

McConnell’s office released a statement from the longtime senator — and a photo of him — last Sunday, the first time in over a month that the Kentucky Republican had addressed his constituents since he was hospitalized.

McConnell, 84, revealed that he is recovering from a fall that left him “briefly unconscious,” as well as a subsequent “mild case” of pneumonia. He added that he expects to return to the Senate to finish the remainder of his term, but he did not provide a timeline.

Before his public statement, his office provided scant details about McConnell’s condition and what led to his hospitalization. The lack of information had sparked speculation and theories online, including that he may be brain dead or experiencing organ failure.
