Mitch McConnell 'fully engaged' with staff amid hospitalization
One day after news of his hospitalization, a spokesperson for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell said he is "fully engaged" with staff in a June 15 release.
A spokesperson confirmed McConnell was admitted to the hospital June 14, though the reason for his hospitalization remains unclear.
"Senator McConnell is fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters and is very appreciative of the outstanding care he is receiving," the spokesperson said in the release.
In a June 15 social media post, Punchbowl News staff member Andrew Desiderio reported U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said McConnell "wants to be back" though he would defer to his staff on when.
Desiderio added Thune said McConnell was "clearly dialed into what's going on."
McConnell, 84, last spent eight days in a hospital Feb. 2-10 for treatment of "flu-like symptoms." The Republican senator is set to retire at the end of 2026.
