CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The U.S. Coast Guard is moving forward with a $212 million investment for the U.S. Coast Guard Base Charleston, Congresswoman Nancy Mace announced Sunday.

The funding comes from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which secured $25 billion for the U.S. Coast Guard. The funds will deliver upgrades to medical and dental care, roads, utilities, access control and waterfront infrastructure at USCG Base Charleston.

“This is a huge win for the men and women of USCG Base Charleston who work to keep our Lowcountry waters safe every single day,” Mace said.

Infrastructure improvements

The $212 million investment will be split across two separate contracts.

The first project, valued at $116.7 million, will fund a complete overhaul of Pier Mike and the surrounding waterfront, delivering a modern pier stretching nearly 1,200 feet which can accommodate up to five major Coast Guard cutters.

The pier will be equipped with power, water, fire protection, sewer, compressed air and telecommunications utilities. The project also includes dredging, bulkhead replacements in the surrounding area and 170 new parking spaces. This project is expected to be completed by April 2030.

The second project, valued at $95.5 million, will deliver a 30,000 square foot medical and dental facility. The project will also deliver a modernized main gate and visitor center, upgraded security fencing and a redesigned road system. New telecommunications and stormwater infrastructure will also be put in place. This project is expected to be completed by July 2029.

“I am excited for the incredible potential these projects have to improve the welfare of our Servicemembers and their families, to homeport our future fleet of Offshore Patrol Cutters and to operationalize the generous investments being made in our Service by the American people,” Vice Admiral Jo-Ann Burdian, commander of Coast Guard Atlantic Area, said.
