CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — An out-of-state woman who threatened to kill U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace has been sentenced to federal prison.

Shayla Addison, 28, of Indianapolis, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to two counts of influencing a federal official by threat.

Addison sent five text messages to Mace’s campaign phone number on Jan. 15, 2025, just before 9 a.m., which included explicit threats to kill Mace. The messages included statements such as “Come outside, b**** we’ll kill you,” and “Tread lightly,” according to court documents. She then sent additional messages to Mace’s email address threatening to kill her by saying, “We will kill you and blow that whole building up b**** come outside,” minutes later. Addison posted comments on Mace’s Instagram account saying, “Shut up h** I’ll kill you,” and “I hope you got mace… cause you gone need it.”

Court documents state that Addison has a history of threatening people, including convictions for intimidation and privacy in three separate cases. This included an incident in September 2019 in which she repeatedly called the Firehouse Subs restaurant in Hendricks County, Indiana, where her ex-boyfriend worked and threatened to “blow u” or “shoot up” the store. She continued the threatening calls into the next morning when she texted, “We will be there at 1:00 p.m. to shoot the store up.” Later investigation revealed that the calls began after Addison’s ex-boyfriend announced that he and his new girlfriend were having a child together.

Another incident occurred when Addison called the same Firehouse Subs more than 50 times in a single day less than three months after the first incident. In September 2023, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to her mother’s apartment after Addison threatened to burn down the place and poured gasoline on the front steps. Upon arrival, they saw Addison sitting in her car with an open gas can on the front seat.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Indianapolis and the U.S. Capitol Police investigated the case.
