Primary results in New York show "this is Zohran Mamdani's Democratic Party," Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., told Newsmax on Wednesday.

Appearing on "National Report" with co-hosts E.D. Hill and Lidia Curanaj, Langworthy said the success of candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signals a growing socialist movement within the Democratic Party that could have national implications.

"What this tells us is this is Zohran Mamdani's Democratic Party," Langworthy said. "I don't think there's any way to dispute that."

The congressman pointed to Tuesday's primary results, where several progressive candidates supported by Mamdani scored victories in congressional and state legislative races.

According to the Associated Press, all three congressional candidates backed by Mamdani won their Democrat primaries, including two challengers who defeated establishment-aligned opponents.

Two of the candidates identify as democratic socialists and are expected to win their heavily blue districts in November.

Mamdani, who has become a rising force on the political left, said his goal was to elect "better Democrats" who would put working people at the center of politics.

The victories showcased his growing influence over the party's direction.

Langworthy sees something different.

"You've seen socialist candidates across New York, especially in New York City, taking three seats [congressional primaries] in Congress," he said. "But you also see socialists won across upstate."

The New York Republican warned that the movement extends beyond city politics and could spread nationwide, aided by New York's outsized influence on media and political discourse.

"This is going to be contagious around the country," Langworthy said.

He also argued that Democrat leaders have effectively legitimized Mamdani's agenda by embracing him and his allies.

According to Langworthy, the party is increasingly moving toward policies rooted in collectivism and socialism rather than traditional Democrat priorities.

"They want to transform America," he said.

Langworthy contrasted the GOP's message with what he described as growing dissatisfaction among Democrats with American institutions.

He cited recent polling showing a significantly higher percentage of Republicans expressing pride in being American than Democrats.

The congressman also accused the party's ascendant progressive wing of embracing positions that are hostile to Israel and increasingly out of step with mainstream voters.

"This is a new era," Langworthy said. "There is a generational shift in who is the boss in the Democratic Party."

With control of Congress at stake in November, Langworthy said the election will offer voters a stark choice between Republican policies and what he described as the Democratic Party's accelerating shift to the left under leaders such as Mamdani.
