Mamdani slate sweeps Democratic primaries in New York, ousts 2 incumbents from Congress
Top allies of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani have defeated establishment-backed Democrats in New York's congressional primary elections. The sweep by his picks Tuesday handed the democratic socialist leader of America’s largest city a significant victory in his bid to reshape the Democratic Party. Congressman Dan Goldman was beaten by the Mamdani-backed former city Comptroller Brad Lander, who often aligned himself with the democratic socialist movement. Another Mamdani ally, democratic socialist state Assembly Member Claire Valdez, beat the handpicked favorite of retiring U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez.
