Letter: We deserve better
It does not escape notice that Pete Ricketts, Jim Pillen and Mike Flood have long been all in for a 34-time felon, sex offender, and serial liar who has dismantled the White House, Kennedy Center, Department of Education, Health & Human Services, and USAID, among others. They have supported him as his policies have put healthcare and food assistance out of reach of millions, placed rural hospitals at risk, and accelerated the cost of living, while he has lined his pockets, and those of his family, with billions generated via deals with billionaire cronies and pay-to-play schemes. Ricketts, Pillen, and Flood have stood silent as the felon has raided funds like those designated to memorials for fallen officers, using that taxpayer money to buy ads with titles like “God sent Trump,” and as he makes desperate efforts to buy support with a variety of paltry payouts to those who cannot afford healthcare. The party that once prided itself on fiscal responsibility now presides over record-breaking increases in federal debt, and fails to take responsibility for a failed war that burns through tens of billions of dollars with no clear objective in sight. Congress has repeatedly adjourned to avoid unpopular votes, and our governor has presided over a huge budget shortfall and no-bid contracts, as farm and ranch incomes fall, bankruptcies rise, he awkwardly insults opponents and people with disabilities, and thwarts the will of the people. Nebraskans may be conservative, but we are not corrupt. We deserve better.
