Ralph Norman campaigns in Greenville for South Carolina gov

U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman is campaigning to become South Carolina's Republican gubernatorial nominee.

Norman's platform includes establishing term limits, increasing government transparency, and other conservative goals.

He has gained support from members of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus.

Norman is one of several candidates competing in the Republican primary for governor.

South Caarolina U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman made a campaign stop in Greenville on May 1 as he pushes to become the state's Republican Party's gubernatorial pick.

After officially announcing his candidacy for governor in July 2025, Norman's push to "clean up Columbia," establish term limits and nine other points of conservative emphasis will be key selling points to voters during South Carolina primary elections, which takes place on June 9.

After multiple terms of government service in Washington D.C. and Columbia, the 5th District representative and York County native plans to use his political influence and business acumen to execute his campaign goals.

His plan: "Put it forth in a bill and sell it to the people of South Carolina," said Norman during his Greenville visit.

"Term limits shouldn't just be for politicians, staff members that are embedded in the government... and the reason you don't see more of that is because you make enemies, because people want to get reelected," Norman added. "I firmly believe in that, and I think you can sell that."

Norman, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus in the U.S. House, has earned the backing of several members of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus as he competes in a primary with six other declared candidates.

Adam Morgan, the founding chair of the Freedom Caucus and former state representative, hosted the Norman campaign stop at his Wade Hampton Road office.

"He actually practices what he preaches, any position he's ever held, he term-limited himself," said Morgan during the small rally. "While other people clung onto positions for 20 and 30 years, he actually leaves like he's doing for Congress."

With nearly 20 supporters behind him, Norman also emphasized the main points of his campaign as pay raises, judges being voted on by the public, banning family members of legislators from lobbying, increased penalties for legalized bribery, the end to profiting from state contracts, fighting against insider dealing and more transparency.

Norman wasn't the only GOP hopeful campaigning in the Upstate on May 1. Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette made a stop at Ike's Korner Grill in Spartanburg.

Other candidates seeking the GOP nomination for governor include Attorney General Alan Wilson, U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, District 1, State Sen. Josh Kimbrell, Spartanburg, and businessman Rom Reddy, Isle of Palms.
