North Charleston discriminated, harassed and retaliated against a police officer, lawsuit alleges

Police Chief Ron Camacho allegedly discriminated against Capt. Tammy Sad, 58, based on her age in August 2025 when he proposed transferring her to a different division because he needed to invest in younger officers with "time left in their career." After Sad filed a formal human resources complaint on Aug. 21, the transfer was cancelled, but she then allegedly faced harassment, isolation and retaliation from supervisors who excluded her from conversations and made decisions about her bureau without her input. Sad filed a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on May 7 and received approval to file a lawsuit on May 12.

The ‘Freedom Caucus ticket’: Ralph Norman chooses Adam Morgan as running mate in SC governor race

U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman announced Adam Morgan, a former state legislator and legislative Freedom Caucus cofounder, as his running mate in the South Carolina gubernatorial race. The announcement comes days after President Donald Trump endorsed Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and suggested Henry McMaster Jr., the governor's son, as her running mate — a pick Norman and Morgan criticized as promoting nepotism and "another 16 years of failed leadership." The primary election is scheduled for June 9.

Kiawah homeowners sue town over ‘knee-jerk’ zoning law they say puts their properties at risk

Thirty-five Kiawah Island homeowners filed a lawsuit in Charleston County civil court on May 21 challenging a proposed "Beachfront Overlay Zoning District" ordinance that would establish buffer zones between homes and the beach, effectively reducing buildable areas on their properties. The homeowners claim the ordinance review process lacked proper notice, failed to comply with state laws and was a pretextual response to recent multifamily developments, calling it an "unconstitutional taking" of their property without compensation. Town Council will consider the ordinance at its June 3 meeting.
