Rep. Ralph Norman endorses Alan Wilson in SC governor's race

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Rep. Ralph Norman endorsed South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson for governor on Monday at a Rock Hill press conference.

“I’ve considered who is best for the for the future of our great state of South Carolina, the person that will cut wasteful spending, the person that will lower our taxes, fix our roads, the person who will empower our small buisnesses, which are the lifeline of this great state and move South Carolina in a more conservative direction, which is definitley what we need; today I’m excited to announce my complete endorsement of Attorney General Alan Wilson,” Norman said.

Wilson released the following statement after the endorsement:

“I am honored to have his endorsement and grateful for his friendship as we continue building a statewide movement focused on protecting freedom, securing our future, and keeping South Carolina the most conservative state in America.”

Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette (28.9%) and Wilson (26.1%) advanced to the June 23 runoff after Tuesday’s primary election, with Norman finishing third (17.1%).

Norman’s endorsement is significant for the two remaining candidates, particularly in counties where he led the primary vote, including Greenville, Cherokee, York, Union, and Chester.

He joins other former candidates, Rep. Nancy Mace and State Senator Josh Kimbrell, who have endorsed Alan Wilson for governor.

Both Evette and Wilson have committed to a debate on June 16 in Conway, with the runoff election taking place the following week on June 23.

The winner will advance to November to face Jermaine Johnson, who won Tuesday’s Democratic primary.
