Rep. Norman to Newsmax: No More Bills Until Senate Passes SAVE America Act

No legislation should come before either chamber of Congress until the Senate passes the SAVE America Act, Rep. Ralph Norman told Newsmax on Thursday.

Appearing on Newsmax's "Wake Up America Early," the South Carolina Republican said Congress should make election integrity legislation its top priority, arguing lawmakers should halt consideration of all other bills until the Senate acts on the measure requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and voter identification.

"The American people need action now," Norman said. "We shouldn't pass any more legislation from the Senate or really anywhere else ... until we pass this."

The House has already approved the SAVE America Act, but the legislation remains stalled in the Senate, where Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., has repeatedly acknowledged Republicans lack the votes needed to overcome a Democrat filibuster.

Norman backed President Donald Trump's decision Wednesday to postpone signing a bipartisan housing bill until Congress passes the SAVE America Act.

Trump called the legislation a "national emergency" in a Truth Social post announcing the cancellation of the signing ceremony.

"The president's exactly right," Norman said. "He's not signing a bill, and it's not the Fair Housing Act. It's the Unfair Housing Act. It's a stupid bill that only puts this country further in debt."

Norman also endorsed Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., and her pledge to oppose procedural votes that would allow legislation to reach the House floor until the Senate passes the bill.

"I agree 100% with her," Norman said. "I will vote against the rule when it comes up. We've got a lot of other colleagues that are."

As a member of the House Rules Committee, Norman said Republicans must increase pressure on Senate Republicans to force action.

"The Senate keeps saying they don't have the votes," he said. "Well, let's have a walking filibuster and keep them up all night. At least make the effort. They're not even making the effort."

When Kraemer asked about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's criticism that the bill would remove millions from the voter rolls, Norman dismissed the claim.

"What he means is 25 million illegals from the voting rolls," Norman said. "They shouldn't be on the voting rolls anyway."

Norman said House conservatives will continue pressing Senate Republicans to prioritize the legislation, arguing election integrity is fundamental to the country's future.

"If we can't do this," he said, "what can we do?"
