Abbeville councilman-elect Neal Richard passes away at 58
Abbeville-based businessman and councilman-elect Neal Richard died Wednesday at the age of 58.
Richard, who had recently won an election to the Abbeville City Council representing District A on May 16, was also the owneer of Richard's Meat Market for more than 30 years.
According to Vincent Funeral Home, which published Richard's obituary, vistitation services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at 209 St. Charles St., Abbeville, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. led by pastors Bob Zannini of LIFE Church and Lane Payne of New Life Church. Richard will be laid to rest at Saint Paul Cemetery.
Abbeville Mayor Roslyn White shared a statement about Richard’s death.
“He led a life centered around family, and his vision was one of unity, grounded by his values of honesty, integrity and dependability. His kind soul and love for our community will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him,” she wrote.
“Please join me, the Abbeville City Council and the entire City of Abbeville team in praying for our friend and colleague, Neal Richard, his family, friends and the Richard’s Meat Market family.”
The Abbeville City Council will take action in requesting a new election be held for the open seat during its June 16 meeting.
The requested date will need to be approved by the State of Louisiana before it can appear on the ballot, at which point filing deadlines for candidates and early voting timeframes will be determined.
