BREAKING: Leesville police chief resigns six months after taking office

The city of Leesville announced Wednesday that it had accepted the sudden resignation of Police Chief Amanda Westmoreland.

Outgoing Mayor Rick Allen released a statement with the announcement, commending Westmoreland’s impact on the department.

“I’ve never met anyone with a bigger heart than Amanda Westmoreland. Her love for people is what I believe God expects from all of us,” the statement reads. “The impact she made in her short term as chief will stand the test of time. She will be missed.”

The city did not comment on the reason for Westmoreland’s resignation.

Westmoreland was sworn into office in January, following the retirement of former police chief Beth Westlake.
