Ro Khanna to join Maine Democrats for get-out-the-vote rally

Ro Khanna will rally Friday night with Graham Platner, Troy Jackson and Matt Dunlap in Bar Harbor.

The California congressman will be joining the Senate, governor and congressional candidates at the Criterion Theatre on Cottage Street for a get-out-the-vote rally from 7-9 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

That comes ahead of Tuesday’s primary election, when voters decide who will represent the Democratic Party in the races for U.S. Senate, 2nd Congressional District and governor.

Platner, the presumptive Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, is vying in a three-way race to take on Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in November. Old Town native David Costello is on the ballot, as well as term-limited Gov. Janet Mills despite suspending active campaigning in April.

Jackson, a former logger and Maine Senate president, is up against Angus King III, Hannah Pingree, Shenna Bellows and Nirav Shah for the right to run to succeed Mills.

Dunlap, the state auditor and former secretary of state, is running against Bangor’s Joe Baldacci, Old Town’s Paige Loud and Auburn’s Jordan Wood. The winner of that race will face off against former Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who is running unopposed for his party’s nomination, to represent Maine’s 2nd District in Washington.
