WASHINGTON, DC — On Wednesday, August 5, U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan, Jr. (PA-08), a member of the Anti-Fraud Task Force, joined Vice President JD Vance, senior Trump Administration officials, and fellow Members of Congress at the White House for a roundtable focused on strengthening efforts to combat fraud, eliminate wasteful government spending, and protect taxpayer dollars. The discussion highlighted the Administration’s ongoing actions to crack down on fraud across federal programs and ensure taxpayer resources are spent responsibly. Since the task force was established, it has identified roughly $230 billion in fraud across federal programs and stopped $56 billion in fraudulent payments before they went out the door, according to Bresnahan’s office.

“The American people expect their tax dollars to be spent wisely, not lost to fraud, waste, or abuse,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “Protecting taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be a partisan issue; it’s our responsibility. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to strengthen oversight, hold bad actors accountable, and ensure federal programs serve the people they’re intended to help.”

Early in the week, the Department of Justice’s National Fraud Enforcement Division, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against 19 defendants accused of billing Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program for home care that was never provided. According to prosecutors, the schemes involved more than $5.7 million in fraudulent billings, including aides who submitted timesheets while they were incarcerated, working other jobs, or on vacation.

“These disturbing allegations show this is not some abstract problem. It is happening in our own backyard,” continued Rep. Bresnahan. “I am proud to serve on this task force because every dollar stolen from Medicaid is a dollar that should have gone to a senior in Scranton, a veteran in Wilkes-Barre, or a family in Wayne County that plays by the rules.”

In the House, Rep. Bresnahan and lawmakers have advanced legislation to strengthen oversight of taxpayer-funded programs, improve accountability, increase penalties for fraud, modernize fraud detection tools, and enhance coordination between federal agencies and law enforcement. He introduced H.R. 9502, the Protect Seniors and Veterans from Health Care Fraud Act of 2026, to tighten safeguards in the programs seniors and veterans count on, and he voted for H.R. 1958, the Deporting Fraudsters Act of 2026, to hold accountable those who come here illegally and exploit federal benefit programs. These efforts are aimed at ensuring government programs operate with greater accountability while preserving resources for the Americans who rely on them.
