Josh Smith hits speed bump during IL stint, dealing with new injury
ARLINGTON — For Rangers second baseman Josh Smith, if it ain't one thing, it's the other.
Smith, already on the 10-day injured list with a right glute strain, came down with a case of "wrist inflammation" in the midst of his ramp up and will be down for "hopefully" just a couple of days per Rangers manager Skip Schumaker. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since May 4 and is eligible to be activated Thursday.

He slashed .217/.324/.239 in his first 31 games this season. The duo of infielders Ezequiel Duran and Justin Foscue have started at second base in Smith's absence. Duran has slashed .308/.387/.577 in his last seven games and Foscue hit his first career big league home run in Saturday's win vs. the Chicago Cubs.
Right-handed pitcher Chris Martin is expected to start a location-to-be-determined rehab assignment in the next day or two. The 39-year-old has been on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement since April 15 but made progress in bullpens and against hitters in the last week-and-a-half. Left-handed pitcher Robert Garcia, out since April 20 with shoulder inflammation, played catch before Monday's game.
