'The very best of Idaho'

Congressman Russ Fulcher called on his colleagues to pray for the families of battalion chiefs John Morrison and Frank Harwood, and for the continued recovery of fire engineer David Tysdal when he took to the House floor in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.

“These men represent the very best of Idaho,” Fulcher said. “Their courage, heroism and dedication will never be forgotten.”

Morrison of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and Harwood of Kootenai County Fire and Rescue both lost their lives June 29 in what Fulcher called an “appalling ambush attack” in his address to Congress.

The men were shot while responding to a brush fire on Canfield Mountain. Tysdal was shot once in the back and has since been recovering from extensive injuries. He was transported to a specialty rehab facility out of state earlier this week.

While Fulcher did not name the man identified as the suspect in the shooting, he referred to him as a “disturbed, cowardly individual.”

“This evil act against our firefighters does not represent the Idaho way,” Fulcher said. “I ask all Idahoans and Americans to pray for a full recovery for Mr. Tysdal and for comfort for all families involved.”
