Is Trump ‘Mentally Stable’ To Be US President? Pete Hegseth's Angry Retort In US Congress

Amid the conflict in Iran, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth came under the radar of Congress over President Donald Trump’s “mental stability" and his unfiltered rants on social media, including those in which he threatened to end the “whole civilisation".
What Hegseth said is now viral. Instead of giving a straightforward answer, he tried to defend the President.
In a clip, now being circulated online, Democrat lawmaker Sara Jacobs was seen asking Hegseth if Trump was “mentally stable enough" to be the “commander-in-chief".
To Trump’s rescue, Hegseth fired back and asked if these questions were ever posed to his predecessor, Joe Biden, for “four years". To this, Jacobs replied, “Joe Biden is not the president. Trump has been president for a year and a half."
The secretary, seemingly frustrated, said, “I won’t even engage in the level of disparagement that you’re putting on the commander-in-chief".
He called Trump an “incredible commander-in-chief who puts our troops first".
About The Hearing
During the hearings on Wednesday and Thursday, members of the House and Senate Armed Services committees took up discussion on the Trump administration’s 2027 military budget proposal, under which, the defence spending would increase to a historic USD 1.5 trillion.
“The $1.5 trillion budget will ensure that the United States continues to maintain the world’s most powerful and capable military," Hegseth said.
The secretary framed the proposal as a generational strength of U.S. military capacity, emphasising that “a nation’s ability to build, to innovate and to support the critical needs of its warfighters at speed and at scale is the foundation upon which its deterrence and survival rests".
Concerns Over Trump’s Mental State
During the ongoing war in Iran, President Donald Trump has often struck threatening, incendiary tone — sometimes at midnight when most of Americans were asleep — fueling concerns over his mental stability.
Previously, in a post on Truth Social, Trump threatened Iran, saying a “whole civilisation will die tonight" if Tehran doesn’t accept his conditions.
