Trans Congresswoman Is Asked Who Should Play Her In A Biopic

Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Del.) was asked Thursday who could play her in a biopic ― and the transgender congresswoman mentioned one possible candidate in a fun exchange.

“Well it would have to be a trans actress,” she replied. “There’s an actress in a movie ... ‘Boy Meets Girl,’ I think, could maybe play me.”

She was likely referring to trans actor Michelle Hendley, one of the leads in that 2014 rom-com.

McBride laughed about the interview on X. “Was not ready for that question lol,” she wrote above the MeidasTouch clip.

The lawmaker fielded comments on the thread.

“I totally have the range to play u btw,” someone wrote.

“Hired,” McBride replied.

In another dialogue, one commenter said: “Does it have to be a trans actress? Like I personally don’t see a big deal with c!s actresses playing trans characters.”

“Opportunities for artists who don’t have enough roles!” the lawmaker answered.

One wisecracker joked, ”@RepNancyMace would be perfect” for the part.

McBride, who became the first openly trans person elected to Congress in 2024, was targeted by South Carolina Republican Mace’s introduction of a bill that would ban trans women from women’s bathrooms in the Capitol.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) later mandated that Capitol and House office bathrooms correspond to biological sex. McBride said she would comply.

“I’m not here to fight about bathrooms,” McBride said at the time. “This effort to distract from the real issues facing this country hasn’t distracted me over the last several days, as I’ve remained hard at work preparing to represent the greatest state in the union come January.”
