Winning the primary was the easy part for Janelle Stelson | PennLive letters

It has been over a month since the District 10 primary election was held to determine who will run against U.S. Rep. Scott Perry this fall in the midterm elections.

Janelle Stelson won the primary election and will face Perry. Janelle’s primary opponent, Dauphin County Commissioner Justin Douglas, managed to get 20,437 votes. Most people agree that she is going to need every one of those votes along with a lion’s share of independent voters and disaffected Republican voters to claim victory against Perry.

How does Janelle plan to win over the 20,437 Democrats who voted for Douglas? Douglas earned those votes because he offered clear plans to make Social Security solvent, acknowledged the severity of the climate crisis and the need for urgent action, and confirmed the need for Medicare for All to ensure everyone has quality health insurance.

Those who voted for Douglas were confident he could beat Perry. We gave him our support because his platform included much more than Janelle’s two-step platform of being pro-choice and “I can beat Scott Perry.”

Let’s work to ensure that Janelle offers voters a clear view of her plans to address the many local, state, and national crises we are facing. Solutions should be clearly stated on her website, in campaign ads, and on flyers. To win votes, she must demonstrate that she is committed to addressing the crucial and urgent issues facing her constituency.
