Severe Thunderstorm Watch: Millions Under Alert in Indiana and Kentucky
The tornado watch covers counties including Marion, Hamilton, Johnson, Boone, Tippecanoe, Monroe, Morgan, Cass, Clinton, White, and others.
The National Weather Service has warned that severe thunderstorms could affect parts of Indiana and Kentucky on Saturday as a weather system moves across the region. Forecasters said the storms could produce quarter-sized hail, strong winds, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 23:00 local time for several counties in Kentucky, including Breckinridge, Bullitt, Carroll, Franklin, Hardin, Henry, Jefferson, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble.
In Indiana, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for central Harrison County and southwestern Floyd County until 18:15 local time.
Another warning was issued for southeastern Orange County and southwestern Washington County until 18:30.
A broader Severe Thunderstorm Watch covering Clark, Crawford, Dubois, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Orange, Perry, Scott and Washington counties remains in place until 23:00.
The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm watch means weather conditions are favourable for the development of storms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and dangerous lightning. Residents were advised to seek shelter if warnings are issued.
