Even Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse is saying Taylor Swift ultimately did not pick Rhode Island for her wedding to football star Travis Kelce.

Asked by a TMZ reporter about the rumors Swift would host her wedding in Westerly, where she famously owns Holiday House, the senator said he thinks she gave the Ocean State "a pass."

"I think she gave Rhode Island a pass, but I hope so. I'd love to have her in Rhode Island," he told the reporter, before walking into a building.

Westerly town manager Shawn Lacey has also said there are no plans for a Rhode Island wedding.

"We have no knowledge of a [Swift] wedding taking place in June," Lacey said during an early April meeting. "If there was a [Swift] wedding taking place, we would certainly have knowledge of it by now."

For months after the famous duo announced their engagement, media reports based on unnamed sources and speculation pointed to the pair planning to get married in Rhode Island, but the couple never directly confirmed it. There's even been speculation that Swift is planting fake clues.

More recently, theories have shifted from a June wedding in Rhode Island to a July wedding in New York City. However, now even that is in question. Page Six, who orginally reported the July 3 wedding, is now saying "it’s now suspected that the previous save-the-dates that were sent out were an attempt by Swift to thwart attention away from her true plans. TMZ also reported that Swift has been personally calling people to invite them to her wedding."

In the meantime, she's keeping everybody guessing.

When did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announce their engagement?

On Aug. 26 2025, Swift announced her engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on Instagram.

"Your English teacher and gym teacher are getting married," the superstar captioned a series of photos of the newly engaged couple in a rose garden, reportedly in the backyard of Kelce's Kansas City home.

Swift began dating Kelce in 2023, after the football player attended the Eras Tour concert in Kansas City on July 8 that year. Kelce afterwards admitted on a "New Heights" podcast episode that he wanted to gift Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, but he failed to meet her at the concert.

After months of speculation, Swift made their relationship official by appearing at one of Kelce's games.
