U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures is pushing to keep his seat in Congress and outraised potential opponents in the most recent quarter, according to federal campaign finance filings.

New reports, the first since the U.S. Supreme Court allowed Alabama to redraw its congressional maps and upend an election, indicate national attention and support for both Figures and a likely opponent in the 2nd Congressional District - Republican Rhett Marques.

Figures and Marques have raised almost equivalent amounts of money, about $1.3 million, since the campaign cycle began in 2025.

In the most recent quarter, Figures outraised Marques through a combination of individual donations and a big influx in cash from Democratic leaders around the country. His total raised was $468,372.

Figures’ support includes $12,000 from former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and two associated PACs, and $5,000 from fellow Alabama Rep. Terri Sewell’s PAC.

Marques, a state lawmaker, is endorsed by President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Katie Britt. He reported raising $167,793 in the most recent quarter.

“Radical far-left, out-of-state money won’t change the fact that Alabamians want common sense,” Saylor Cuzzort, a spokeswoman for Marques, said in a statement to AL.com.

Figures’ campaign did not respond to a request for comment Monday.

Republicans are racing to catch up. On Monday, a national GOP organization announced that the district was on its target list.

Candidates in District 2 reported total cash on hand as of June 30:

Marques and other Republican candidates for Congressional Districts 1 and 2 will be on the ballot in a special primary Aug. 11.

Figures does not have a primary opponent.

Of candidates for the 1st Congressional District, also in South Alabama, Jerry Carl continues to dominate in fundraising.
