Letters: Gerrymandering makes citizen feel she doesn’t count
I recently received a new voter registration card, only to discover that I have been gerrymandered out of my Democratic district into Rep. Steve Scalise’s deeply red District 1.
This district does not represent my views. To add insult to injury, when I tried to contact Scalise via email to voice my objection to this gerrymandering, I was told I was not in his district and therefore could not submit my complaint.
Obviously, our state government has been quick to gerrymander, but not so quick to adjust their records, leaving many of us in the new district without a voice.
Furthermore, this grievous gerrymandering on the part of the Republican Party has ensured that the checks and balances of a two-party system no longer exist in Louisiana.
