Susan Collins

So we finally have a death here in Biddeford, Maine — a 26-year-old Colombian with legal working papers — killed at the hands of the ICE goon squad. Our credulous Sen. Susan Collins — who voted for another $70 billion of enhanced funding for ICE — claims that this unvetted gang of armed thugs is keeping our country safe.

Time and again we read about innocent immigrants legally working in this country or awaiting their asylum hearings who have been snatched off the street and either executed or sent to abusive and distant for-profit facilities. We may call these places detention facilities, but they are really nothing more than concentration camps.

This blood is now part of Sen. Collins’ legacy. That’s why hundreds of thousands of us Mainers are doing all we can to ensure that she is not elected again. The shame of her support for funding ICE — in the face of all its abuses — is an insult to Maine and our country.

It’s so ironic that Susan Collins once mused that she wanted to be thought of as being like Margaret Chase Smith. Instead, she will be remembered like Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem, willfully ignorant and naive enablers to an authoritarian regime.
