This week marks four years since the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade and took away a basic right from women that I, quite frankly, had taken for granted all my life.

Brett Kavanaugh was the deciding vote in this decision and Sen. Susan Collins was the deciding vote to confirm him to the Supreme Court, despite the likelihood that he would vote against Roe given the chance.

Dobbs is only the beginning of Kavanaugh’s carving away at our most basic and essential civil liberties. And confirming Kavanaugh is only one “concerning” action by Susan Collins in a list far too long for a letter to the editor.

Every woman knows at least one woman who has had an abortion. For every one of those women I know, it has been a heart-wrenching, deeply personal — and private — loss. One that men perhaps cannot fully understand. But Susan Collins should.

And her doubling down now, saying that she “does not regret” her vote for Kavanaugh, is nauseating to me. Indeed, everything she has done to rubber stamp the agenda of this misogynistic administration makes me ill.

The fact that Collins claims to be “concerned” or “disappointed” by the fallout of her decisions is absolutely unacceptable. Collins’ email newsletter makes it sound like all is well in the world. It is not. No ribbon-cutting or constituent coffee photo op can make up for my daughter having fewer rights than I did. Mainers deserve better. Graham Platner is our best and only choice in November.
