Political commentator Dick Morris dismissed the chances of Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner defeating Sen. Susan Collins in Maine, despite a recent poll showing Platner leading the longtime Republican incumbent by seven percentage points.
Speaking Saturday on Newsmax's “Saturday Report,” Morris said he did not believe the polling reflected the eventual outcome of the race and predicted Collins would win reelection comfortably.
“I don’t know if that poll is right, but there is no way in hell that Platner is going to win,” Morris said.
The race has drawn national attention as Democrats seek to gain control of the Senate in the 2026 midterm elections. Democrats would need a net gain of four seats to reclaim the majority if Republicans maintain their current advantage.
Morris argued that a Collins victory would significantly complicate Democratic efforts to flip the Senate.
“The significance of that race is very important,” he said. “Nationally, the Democrats need four seats to take over the Senate. And there goes one of them.”
Collins, one of the Senate’s most moderate Republicans, has historically faced competitive reelection races in Maine, a state known for its independent electorate and willingness to support candidates from both parties.
Morris said Collins, despite often facing difficult political terrain in the state, would ultimately prevail because of controversies surrounding Platner.
“Susan Collins, who normally would have had a real problem getting reelected, will absolutely walk in,” Morris said.
Morris pointed to scrutiny surrounding Platner over reported comments and imagery tied to the Democratic candidate. He referenced allegations involving a Nazi tattoo and comments about sexual assault that have circulated during the campaign.
“And I think that Platner is toast,” Morris said. “Even in a crazy state like Maine, having a Nazi tattoo and then defending it and saying women deserve being raped and they need to act more like adults — that stuff is not going away.”
Morris compared the controversy to a permanent mark on a candidate’s image.
“It’s a lot like a tattoo. It’s just there on your chest,” he said.
He ended his remarks with a jab at campaign tactics and public imagery.
“Anyway, let this be an end to topless campaigning,” Morris said.
The Maine Senate contest is expected to remain one of the most closely watched races of the 2026 cycle as both parties battle for control of the Senate in a sharply divided political environment.
