Protestors descended on Sen. Susan Collins’ Biddeford office Monday following a deadly shooting that authorities said involved federal immigration agents.

Dozens of people crowded the entryway of the Main St. office Monday afternoon shouting “Vote her out!” On the street, others carried signs reading, “NO ICE” and “Melt ICE.”

Collins, a five-time Republican incumbent, is currently seeking reelection. She has faced criticism from Maine Democrats in recent weeks for her June vote in favor of a $70 billion funding bill to support Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“The shooting in Biddeford requires a full and impartial investigation of what happened,” Collins said in a written statement. “It is my understanding that the Biddeford police have secured the site, and the FBI is investigating.”

Immigrants rights’ advocates said that a 26-year-old man from Colombia was killed in the Monday morning shooting in Biddeford, though authorities have not released his identity.

The Maine attorney general’s office said the incident happened as an “enforcement operation related to a final order of removal” was being conducted and that the “subject attempted to flee in a vehicle.” Biddeford police confirmed that ICE was involved.

The protest outside Collins’ office was part of a larger demonstration about the shooting.

Around noon, about two dozen protestors marched into Collins’ office, but were shooed out minutes later as police arrived.

“This is your fault Susan!” one man shouted.

“You’re a fascist!” another person yelled at the officers who got in the protesters’ way.

The crowd later marched back towards Mechanics Park after chanting at and heckling the officers.

“No more hate, no more fear!” crowd leaders shouted as they meandered down the road.

“Immigrants are welcome here!” the crowd responded.
