Senate candidate Troy Jackson calls out Elon Musk over supposed plans to help Sen. Collins

PORTLAND (WGME) -- Democratic candidate for Senate Troy Jackson is responding to reports that Elon Musk is planning to get involved in his race against Senator Susan Collins.

The story was originally reported by the New York Times.

Citing two unnamed sources familiar with the plans, the Times reports Musk's America PAC plans to spend upwards of $120 million helping GOP candidates in the midterms.

A representative of the Collins campaign says that they have no knowledge of Musk providing funding to her campaign.

But Jackson took to Facebook over the weekend to push back against the reports.

"He wants to have people that are totally beholden to him and Donald Trump, making sure we’re getting tax cuts for billionaires on the back of our healthcare system, our hospitals,” Jackson said. “That’s what Elon Musk wants. He doesn’t care about us really. Doesn’t care about Susan. He cares about him."

Jackson goes on to say, “You don’t get to buy the government you want, and we don't want his dirty money in politics.”
