Congressman Tom Tiffany held town hall on proposed Barron County solar project

DALLAS, Wis. (WEAU) - Congressman and Republican Governor Candidate Tom Tiffany took a trip to rural Barron County on Friday night.

He spoke with citizens concerned that the proposed solar farm is taking away from Wisconsin farmland.

In Dallas, Tiffany says people want their thoughts heard, whether we’re talking about wind, solar or data centers.

Tiffany says it’s happening across the state. Beautiful farmland being converted into industrial sites.

He says it’s just bad policy, but that it goes beyond the land.

“We went from the second lowest cost state in the Midwest for electricity to the second highest. So, these intermittent sources of power, like wind and solar, are driving up the cost of electricity. And it’s not good for residential users but it’s really bad for industry because it’s going to make them uncompetitive,” said Tiffany.

The proposed project that was discussed on Friday night is the sandhill solar project.

According to its website, it would provide clean energy and even revenue for Barron County. It says the project could power 17,000 homes.
