North Carolina GOP Sen. Thom Tillis said he would stall the SAVE America Act if it came to the Senate.

“If I see a reconciliation bill come from the House with another failed attempt to confuse this election, I will use every device I have available to slow down the wheels of government until people cop a clue and do the math,” he said on the Senate floor, according to The Hill newspaper.

The SAVE Act is short for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. The legislation would require proof of U.S. citizenship when people register to vote in federal elections.

President Donald Trump has been pushing for the legislation to be passed and he didn’t sign the bipartisan housing bill in protest due to the bill not passing.

Tillis has been critical of the SAVE Act, saying that the legislation is impossible to implement before the 2026 midterms.

“I have been trying to explain for nearly a year that the SAVE Act, whether it’s the SAVE Act, the SAVE America Act, the new SAVE legislation that’s being proposed in the House, SAVE goes to Hollywood, SAVE goes to Hawaii, whatever the sequels are, all of them are fundamentally flawed and impossible to implement by this election,” he said.

Last month, Trump slammed GOP senators in a lengthy TRUTH Social post for being against the SAVE Act.

“There is only one reason to oppose — CHEATING! The House of Representatives has approved this vital Act, THREE TIMES,” Trump said, referencing the SAVE Act. “The United States Senate seems unable to do so. In a time when there is a powerful Communist Movement taking place in our Country, one more dangerous than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or September 11th, all Dumocrats, and our five Republican Senate Hold Outs, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, Bill Cassidy, and Mitch McConnell must vote to SAVE OUR COUNTRY.”
