Influential Republican demands US probe into Airwallex’s China ties
An influential Republican senator has asked Treasury officials to investigate Airwallex and accused the payments giant, heavily backed by local venture capital firms, of having deep ties with the Chinese government.
Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas who is close to the Trump administration, wrote to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent overnight, urging a probe of Airwallex, saying it held sensitive details of American companies, including “artificial intelligence labs and defence contractors”.
