Challenge to Tommy Tuberville’s residency appealed to Alabama Supreme Court
A challenge to U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s run for governor of Alabama is headed to the state Supreme Court.
Two veterans from Alabama, Brook Dorgan and Justin LeBlanc, first filed a lawsuit in May, saying Tuberville could not prove that he has been a resident of the state for seven years and does not meet state requirements for office.
A Montgomery judge dismissed the lawsuit last week, citing jurisdictional issues.
Barry Ragsdale, attorney for the veterans, filed an appeal to the Supreme Court July 14.
“We are confident that, if given a fair opportunity to present that evidence in court, we could easily establish that Tuberville is lying about where he lives and is ineligible to serve as governor,” Ragsdale told AL.com.
Tuberville has maintained that he moved to Auburn and established residency in Alabama in 2019.
He has also claimed that questions about his candidacy are being manufactured by Democrats and his opponent in the governor’s race, Doug Jones.
“DC Doug cannot run on open borders, men in women’s sports, DEI, defunding the police, the socialist left, or the Biden-Jones record, so his buddies tried to drag Coach through the mud instead,” said Tuberville campaign manager Jordan Doufexis.
