Alabama GOP agrees to hear new challenge to Tommy Tuberville’s residency

The Alabama GOP has agreed to hold a hearing and review a challenge to Tommy Tuberville’s nomination for governor.

Tuberville, currently a U.S. Senator, won the primary in May. Another candidate, Ken McFeeters, challenged the results because he says Tuberville does not meet residency requirements.

McFeeters asked the Alabama Republican Party to void Tuberville’s nomination and name the next eligible candidate — himself— as the nominee.

Tuberville has maintained that he meets the seven-year residency requirement to be Alabama governor.

McFeeters said Monday that the party’s candidate committee will hear his case June 14 in Birmingham.

A representative for the party said there was no other information to add.

McFeeters has already tried to challenge Tuberville’s residency with the state party and in court. His previous efforts have been dismissed.
