Letters: Dictators will look to Trump for justification
Re: "Mike Johnson says Trump’s Venezuela attack justified; Troy Carter says it’s unconstitutional," published Jan. 3.
When will the Trumpian sycophants in Congress do their job and stop kowtowing to President Donald Trump's maniacal actions? The unhinged and self-serving military attack Trump has taken in Venezuela has opened the door to military takeovers all over the globe — including the United States. What a vivid red carpet he has rolled out for the likes of autocrats such as Vladimir Putin in Russia or Kim Jong Un in North Korea.
All any leader now has to do is "shout fire in a crowded theater," magnify the scream with deliberate falsehoods and the path to war (and war crimes) has been paved.
What's next? Will Trump call for violent takeovers of states or cities within the United States that he views as enemies? Will he create repetitive lies stating that Greenland poses a threat to the United States so he (or Jeff Landry) can run that country, too?
To the Mike Johnsons of Congress, do you remember the term checks and balances? Do you remember the oath of office pledging allegiance, not to an individual, but to the Constitution?
God help us all, as we witness one destructive, un-American action after another.
