Ken Calvert will face Young Kim in prolonged clash of Republican incumbents
Young Kim advanced to a run-off against Ken Calvert for one of California’s few safely red House seats Tuesday, extending a treacherous fight between GOP incumbents.
Each opted to run for a district designed to be a Republican vote sink in last year’s redistricting — rather than vie for a Democratic-leaning seat.
That set off a bruising campaign in which the representatives and their supporters have poured millions of dollars into accusing one another of being insufficiently loyal to President Donald Trump, though he has not endorsed in the race. The continuation of the incumbent battle — playing out in California’s expensive media markets — is all but sure to sap millions more from Republican donors.
