Westminster Graduate Matt Schultz Runs for Alaska's At-Large Congressional Seat
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Although he’s a congressional candidate today, to the Westminster College community, the Rev. Matt Schultz will forever be known as the “Barefoot Guy.”
A 1995 graduate, in his time at Westminster College, Schultz was an art major and was very involved in the chapel staff, with the service team, helping other students to become more involved in local nonprofit organizations in western PA.
Schultz also spent an entire fall semester barefoot, for no reason other than that he “just felt like it,” hence the nickname.
Now, Schultz is campaigning for Alaska’s at-large congressional seat in the 2026 midterm election, while still working full-time as a pastor at Anchorage’s First Presbyterian Church. Schultz is running as a Democrat, fighting for affordability and healthcare, raising $300,000 in the first quarter.
Schultz has dedicated his career to public service, and said that as a pastor, he is on call 24/7, and that being present is required of representatives.
