Jerry Carl wins Alabama District 1 GOP primary, sets sights on November
Daphne, AL (NBC 15) — Former Congressman Jerry Carl is one step closer to returning to Washington after winning the Republican nomination for Alabama's 1st Congressional District Tuesday night.
The Associated Press called the special Republican primary for Carl as supporters gathered at his election night watch party.
"It's been a long year. It's been an exciting year," Carl told NBC 15 after the race was called. "We're excited tonight."
But Carl said the celebration will be short-lived.
"We get up in the morning, we start over," Carl said. "We've got a race in November."
Carl will face Democrat Clyde Jones Jr. in the November general election.
A political comeback years in the making
Tuesday's victory marks another step in Carl's effort to return to the U.S. House after losing his seat two years ago.
