Amish Shah wins Democratic CD1 primary, will face Jay Feely
Doctor and former state Rep. Amish Shah defeated Marlene Galán-Woods in the Democratic 1st Congressional District primary, and will face former Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely in November.
Why it matters: It's difficult to imagine either party winning control of the House without this seat.
The big picture: The highly competitive Scottsdale and north Phoenix-based district is up for grabs after longtime Republican U.S. Rep. David Schweikert's decision to run for governor.
State of play: The AP called the Republican race for Feely around 8:30pm Tuesday and the Democratic contest for Shah on Wednesday night.
Catch up quick: Both national parties took the unusual step of backing candidates in their hotly contested primaries.
Flashback: The Democratic primary was a rematch of the 2024 contest where Shah defeated Galán-Woods. He lost to Schweikert in the general election.
