Schiff, McGuire criticize Trump, offer hope and solutions at Santa Rosa town hall
Applause from a receptive Santa Rosa crowd punctuated many of the remarks by state Sen. Mike McGuire and Sen. Adam Schiff of California on Wednesday, as the two Democrats hosted a town hall event that drew a crowd of more than 1,000 in-person and online.
The event was staged as both a home-county campaign call for McGuire, the Healdsburg lawmaker who is running for the reshaped 1st District seat in Congress, and a rally and release valve for many North Bay constituents concerned about the direction of the nation and democracy at large.
Only one of the posed questions elicited a sustained ovation of its own.
Roberta Delgado from Santa Rosa asked: “Can you give me hope that as a 77-year-old Latino widow, that someday soon I can stop feeling like I need to carry my birth certificate with me everywhere, and that life will become more manageable for my young adult grandsons before I leave the planet?”
