Kiley announces campaign for 6th district, averting McClintock challenge
Rep. Tom McClintock (R–Elk Grove) will not have to fend off a challenge from Rep. Kevin Kiley (R–Rocklin) after all.
Kiley announced Monday that he will run in Congressional District 6, a district that is favorable to Democrats.
Driving the news: Kiley had filed to run in both the 5th and 6th districts last week, teeing up a final decision for this week.
What he’s saying: Kiley said in a post on X that it is true that he was fully prepared to run in the new 5th district, which would have set up a primary challenge against McClintock.
State of the race: The Cook Political Report considers District 6 to lean solidly Democratic by five points.
A pricey decision: Before making his decision, Kiley spent the month of February running television advertisements in the Fresno market, which is in McClintock’s district.
