The Associated Press on Tuesday declared that the two top vote-getters in the 8th Congressional District race, U.S. Rep. John Garamendi, a Democrat, and Republican Rudy Recile of Vallejo, will advance to a November run-off.
Two Democrat challengers with west Contra Costa ties, Aaron Rowden of Tara Hills and Nicolas Carjuzaa of Martinez, were trailing behind according to unofficial relection results updated as of 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night.
The district represents parts of Contra Costa, Solano and Sacramento counties.
None of Garamendi’s three challengers have served public office in California while Garamendi has been involved in state politics for more than 50 years. Recile, an Army veteran, has run for Congress unsuccessfully twice. Rowden, a former attorney, served on a town council in Maine and was a recreation and parks commissioner in Richmond. Carjuzaa, a former financial regulator, volunteered on several successful national campaigns.
