In CA-35, the choice comes down to policy nitpicks vs. wild conspiracies

Democrat Rep. Norma Torres will be defending California’s 35th congressional district in the November elections against Republican candidate Mike Cargile. The district spans the Inland Empire cities of Chino Hills, Fontana, Corona, Ontario, Pomona, and Upland, among others.

Torres has been in the House of Representatives since she was elected in 2014 and previously served in both houses of the California State Legislature. This is also the fourth time Torres has faced a challenge by Cargile, who brings a very different perspective to the race, to say the least.

Cargile has criticized Torres on many fronts, often accusing her of supporting open borders and “hating” the 2nd amendment although Torres denies these characterizations. Their disagreements extend internationally however as Cargile is a vocal supporter of Nayib Bukele, the authoritarian Salvadoran president who back in 2021 called on residents of CA-35 to vote against Torres after she criticized his regime.
